Separate Your Business From The Competition With A USP

Setting your company apart from your competitors is crucial for the longevity and success of your business. A “USP” (Unique Selling Proposition) is the promise you make to your target audience that will differentiate you from everyone else. In other words, it is a claim that you make that no one else makes. A claim or promise that is unique to you and your business.

If you don’t have a promise/claim that is unique to your business and that sets you apart from all your competitors, then you don’t have a USP.
Consider the example of Mike Diamond, the “smell-good plumber.” All plumbers offer the same service don’t they? Well, Mike Diamond believed he could find something to make him stand out, something to make him different. So he created the idea that his team would always be well dressed and smelling good. That’s a good example of a great USP!

If you don’t have a strong USP, it’s possible your customers will not know what you stand for (and how you are different/better than anyone else) and they could end up going down the street to the business that has a strong promise. It’s time to take control of your destiny and it begins with the promise that you make to your customers.

The ultimate goal of your USP is to have people say, “Oh, that’s right, you’re the business that………” This will then entice them to request more information about your business or at least go to your website to research your company further.
