Football season is here and this quote from Jerry Rice hits home with me as I was never the best, the smartest or the fastest; yet I was an All American and graduated with honors! How?
I learned early in life that I simply had to: out work, out smart, out hustle and flat out, try harder than everyone else just to keep up! Sound familiar? Well, it is just this kind of attitude and work ethic that made us successful at what we do.
So what happened to that successful person? Did he watch CNN one too many times and turn into Negative Nancy? Of course not, but some days… It's hard, right? Life is sometimes hard. I think that's why “life” is a four letter word. Like work or golf… it's not supposed to be easy!
To have success in life, one has to commit to 3 steps:
1. Take control of success ~ Only “you” can make “you” a success. Think like “Jerry Rice”. You need to be willing to do the things that are necessary to succeed.
2. You must set high goals — and then do whatever it takes to achieve them. Are yours written down? Do you have a vision board? Are you running the business or is the business running you?
3. React Positively to the Negative ~ Be a Leader
As a business owner & the leader of your team, you MUST BELIEVE & be MORE POSITIVE than the negative. You see… The negative feeds… it festers…. It lingers….
Squash it with Optimism… Lead & Your team will follow!

This quote reminded me of a meeting I had last week with one of our clients and he was telling me what a great year they had. I was so excited because that is not the case for many companies out there. I asked him what his secret was and I am so glad I did because the insight from this meeting was spectacular.
1. Market Share ~ This economy is a great time to pick up market share! “Think about it, he said “When most companies are just trying to keep the lights on, I'm gaining market share, Growing my database & getting the jobs that they aren't. This means that I will get the future referrals too!” “When the client looks at my full page ad month after month, they can't help but call us and we usually get the job!”
2. Advertising ~ “I've tripled my advertising” he said! Wow, I couldn't believe it, “How could you afford to that? I asked. He replied with… “How could I afford NOT to do that?” Hmmm I thought…. He's coming from a different place than most…. fear of loss and fear of failure is NOT in his vocabulary…. He's coming from a place of… “This is my only option! This is my only path to success. I am in control of my own destiny! “I will do what others won't!”
3. Stay the Course ~ “I know who I am and what I stand for” he said and “I want to tell everyone about it. I stay consistent with my marketing plan even though some months I do wonder if I'm getting the ROI….” He continues… “But I never quit and I keep advertising consistently.” “I never try and “I certainly don't throw out random bits of advertising and HOPE that something works!
