What would John Wooden do?

What would John Wooden do?

If John Wooden, the famous basketball coach from UCLA, was President and CEO of your company, what would he do during these tough economic times?

John Wooden is a great leader and was asked in an interview how he prepared for the next opponent? He said, “The way to build a team isn't to worry about your competitor; the way to build a team is play to your strengths. If we play our game right, they will be playing our game. We won't play their game.” It was a known fact that John Wooden did NOT scout his opponents the way teams do today. He believes in staying TRUE to who you are and be aggressive doing what you do best.

I think what he is trying to say is the way to prepare for competition in sports or in business is to know who you are as a person/company, do what you do better than everyone else and shout it to the rooftops, so that your competition can only look at you and wonder how in world are they going to catch up?

In an article with legendary leadership trainer John C. Maxwell, he says that the number one reason that companies lose customers is due to POOR service! To make things worse, the dissatisfied customer will tell 9 people, where as the satisfied customer will only tell 5. It costs five to ten times more to get a new customer than it costs to keep an existing customer. Research shows that customers are willing to pay more for better service.

Knowing this information may make you re-think and re-evaluate what you are concentrating on. Are you focused on the bottom line or your customer? Can you still get good margins in this economy when everyone else is simply slashing prices to get a job? Of course you can! Follow the model of other successful Americans and set yourself apart from everyone else.

“Being average means you are as close to the bottom as you are to the top.” John Wooden

Rise above and set yourself apart from the competition by providing the best customer service possible! Your clients will thank you for it….
